The Best five ways to cool off this summer

You’ve finally arrived in Mauritius. There’s tropical foliage, a crystal-clear lagoon, exotic fruit… and scorching summer temperatures. Not to worry – here are a few tips to keep you cool during your holiday under the Mauritian sun. Trust us, we live here!

1. Enjoy 100% natural air conditioning

Is staying in an air-conditioned room all day your idea of fun? Us neither. It’s much more enjoyable – and eco-friendly – to cool off with a delicious sea breeze at the beach. If you’re staying at Veranda Tamarin, grab your beach kit, stop off at Kas Dal for some cold drinks, then head to the Bay to lounge around under a parasol, or (better yet) to take a dip!

2. Try out some new water activities

Stand up Paddle

Veranda Resorts hotels all offer a wide range of water activities. It’s the best way to keep cool as well as active! Choose from water volleyball, stand up paddling on the lagoon or the river, kayaking, snorkelling, water aerobics, diving, water skiing… and more! Some of our hotels also offer kitesurfing, aquazumba, water polo and parasailing. Just ask for details at the front desk of your hotel when you arrive.

Learn to surf at the Bay

Veranda Tamarin is located opposite the “Bay”, a beach break whose conditions are ideal to learn to surf. Book a course at the Tamarin Bay Surf School, which was run by Cyril Thévenau for decades. Experienced surfer? Try to conquer Dal, a legendary reef break located in the same bay and that is very popular among Mauritian surfers.

3. Eat fresh

As the temperatures rise, opt for cold dishes at mealtimes and stay hydrated with refreshing drinks. Our favourite combo? A freshly squeezed tropical fruit juice alongside an ourite* salad. This Rodriguan specialty full of zingy lemon and coriander flavours is an absolute must. In fact, it’s one of the dishes that our chefs will teach you to make duringcooking classes at your hotel! Cap off your meal with the local version of sorbet: a delicious and brightly coloured shaved ice.

4. Go out to sea

The lapping of the water against the hull, the salty breeze, the rocking waves, the deep blue of the depths… We all dream of spending hot summer afternoons on a boat. Your Veranda Resorts hotel invites you to spend the day exploring the lagoon and islets aboard a catamaran. Lunch and drinks are provided – just bring your swimsuit and sunscreen! Alternatively, take a two-hour ride on a traditional pirogue with a local fisherman. Soak up the magnificent views of the north-eastern coast and sail at a Mauritian pace while sipping a glass of champagne. Finally, Veranda Palmar offers cruises aboard a speedboat or pirate ship. Hats and sunglasses at the ready!

5. Put your feet up

The hottest hours of the day lend themselves to a well-deserved nap. After all, that’s what holidays are all about!
