At Veranda Resorts, we’ll tantalise your taste buds with three exquisite and authentic experiences: My Local Table, Mauritian cooking classes, and a “sharing table”. Mauritius is a multicultural island, famous for its welcoming, food-loving population. And what better way to experience the local lifestyle than to enjoy a meal in a family home? In partnership with start-up My Local Table, Veranda Resorts connects you to a local family who will host you for a colourful dinner. After a traditional Mauritian rum aperitif, your hosts will invite you to discover their specialties (samosas, fish vindaye, brèdes songes, rougaille, flambéed banana…) while taking your food preferences into account. Some families even serve produce from their gardens! Though the meal itself is delicious, what makes this ultra-authentic experience so successful is the opportunity to spend some time in the company of friendly Mauritians. Finally, rest assured: all host families are carefully selected based on strict hygienic criteria. And of course, by taking part, you’ll make a direct contribution to the local economy!

Cooking class by the Chef at Veranda Resorts
It’s 1 p.m at Veranda Grand Baie, and the sweet scent of saffron wafts in from the bar. Six customers are preparing for a cooking class with the help of the entertainment team, who are teaching them a few dance steps as they listen to a lively sega. Once everyone has their toques and aprons on, Executive Chef Sudhir begins proceedings. Each cooking station is equipped with a karay and a multitude of small coloured bowls overflowing with herbs, spices, and fresh ingredients such as coriander, turmeric and cumin seeds. The plan is to make a Mauritian chicken curry! All Veranda hotels offer this cooking course, which the chefs will adapt to accommodate your dietary restrictions. It’s a fun and relaxing moment for the entire family – and of course, it concludes with a delicious tasting session as well as a fruit cocktail!

Take part in a friendly weekly dinner at your Veranda Resorts hotel and meet fellow guests who speak your language. This event is an opportunity to talk about your Mauritian adventures, exchange tips and chat to the hotel’s team, who will regale you with endless stories! At this “sharing table”, you’ll enjoy a family-style meal prepared with seasonal produce and consisting of Mauritian specialties with a modern twist, all in a deliberately homey atmosphere.
